Spy shots of the new Volkswagen Taigo hybrid have recently surfaced in overseas media. The new model will feature a 1.5L eTSI four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. While the current overseas version of the Taigo relies solely on an internal combustion engine, a hybrid variant is being introduced in response to increasingly stringent EU regulations.

The exterior design of the vehicle captured in the spy shots remains largely consistent with the current model on sale; it features headlights with signature C-shaped daytime running lights and a honeycomb-patterned grille.

Looking into the cabin through the windshield, one can see that the new vehicle is equipped with two forward-facing cameras; while one likely serves as a dashcam, the other is presumably a forward-sensing sensor for the driver-assistance system, suggesting the vehicle may feature Level 2 driver-assistance capabilities.

Viewed from the side, the prototype features the same two-tone wheel design found on the current production model and retains traditional mechanical door handles; it also sports silver door sill trim and a sharp shoulder/waist line, with an overall design that remains consistent with the current model.

The dimensions of the new hybrid Taigo will remain the same as those of the current model; for reference, the current Taigo sold in the European market measures 4,266 mm in length, 1,757 mm in width, and 1,518 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,554 mm, positioning it as a compact SUV.

The rear styling of the new Taigo hybrid remains consistent with the current model; its fastback design lends the vehicle a sporty feel. Like the internal combustion engine version, the new model features a hidden exhaust layout, creating a more cohesive look at the rear.

The most significant change in the new model lies in its powertrain: it is equipped with a 1.5L eTSI four-cylinder gasoline engine featuring a 48V mild-hybrid system. While the manufacturer has not yet released detailed performance specifications, the WLTP combined fuel consumption is expected to be around 5L/100km, based on European models utilizing the same 48V mild-hybrid setup. Final specifications and configuration details will be confirmed at the official launch event.
