The "Authentic M3" of the Electric Era: Spy Shots of the Production BMW M3 EV Featuring a Quad-Motor AWD System

Spy shots of the production-ready BMW M3 EV have recently surfaced. Built on BMW’s "Neue Klasse" (New Class) platform, this all-electric performance vehicle is set to debut in 2027. Its overall silhouette bears a striking resemblance to the BMW i3, yet it features a distinctive M sports package. BMW has explicitly stated that the model will not be named "i3 M" but rather "M3 EV"—a deliberate choice intended to convey to consumers that it is a "genuine M3."

In terms of exterior design, the new vehicle features a distinctive front bumper with large air intakes, a prominent front splitter, and flared bodywork sections on either side. It is also equipped with a vented hood and lightweight sports wheels paired with a high-performance braking system featuring bronze-colored calipers. The suspension has been specially tuned and lowered for a sportier stance, while the rear end gains a small ducktail spoiler and a diffuser with integrated air channels; reflectors are also positioned on both sides of the rear bumper.

Regarding the interior, clear images have not yet been captured in spy shots; however, drawing on the configuration of the i3—which shares the same platform—the new model is expected to feature the panoramic iDrive system and a 17.9-inch central display, alongside exclusive appointments such as an M-specific sports steering wheel and sports bucket seats.

In terms of powertrain, the all-new M3 EV will feature a quad-motor all-wheel-drive system. BMW has stated that this architecture will elevate the driving experience and track performance to new heights; while precise specifications have not yet been officially released, rumors suggest a maximum power output ranging from 515 kW to 735 kW, surpassing the 588 kW output of its direct rival, the all-electric AMG C-Class.
