Spy shots of the all-new BMW X7 M60 have surfaced; it retains the 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine and is set to debut in late spring 2027.

We recently obtained spy shots of a camouflaged prototype of the high-performance BMW X7 M60 xDrive. As a next-generation model, the vehicle—positioned as a luxury, three-row large SUV—is currently undergoing dynamic performance calibration at the Nürburgring. It is set to launch as a 2028 model, with a global debut scheduled for late spring 2027 and an official market release later that same year.

Spy shots reveal a camouflaged prototype featuring temporary headlight and taillight units rather than production-ready components. Key dimensions are already confirmed: the vehicle exceeds 5 meters in length with a wheelbase surpassing 3 meters, maintaining its status as BMW's largest SUV. It is positioned to compete primarily against large luxury SUVs such as the Audi Q9, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Land Rover Range Rover, and Volvo XC90. Its exterior design will not simply replicate the "Neue Klasse" EV styling language; instead, the front and rear designs will draw inspiration from the facelifted BMW 7 Series, retaining the characteristic aesthetic of the brand's traditional luxury internal-combustion models.

Regarding the interior, although no further photos have been revealed, the vehicle is expected to extensively incorporate cockpit technologies from the new-generation platform. For instance, it may feature a panoramic windshield display system—first debuted on the iX3—which supports a total of nine functional components; three of these directly replace the traditional digital instrument cluster, while the remaining six can be customized via the 17.9-inch central touchscreen. Additionally, the vehicle will be equipped with luxury features such as automatic doors, a 31.3-inch rear theater screen, and heated and ventilated rear seats, further reinforcing its status as a flagship model.

Regarding the powertrain, the vehicle in the spy shots features the signature quad-exhaust setup of M Performance models, confirming that this prototype is the X7 M60 xDrive variant; it is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine—expected to deliver over 600 horsepower—paired with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. BMW will not produce a full-fledged M version of the new-generation X7; instead, the high-performance slot will be filled by an ALPINA variant, potentially badged as the "M100." Within the internal combustion lineup, the entry-level X7 40 xDrive is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine, while higher-end models feature V8 power. In addition to the combustion-engine models, BMW is simultaneously developing an all-electric iX7, which is also slated for future market release.

Development of the new vehicle is currently in its final stages; following the completion of performance testing at the Nürburgring, the car must still undergo rigorous cold-weather winter testing. According to the plan, the all-new BMW X7 series will make its global debut in late spring 2027, with deliveries of the high-performance M60 version commencing in the second half of 2027. Further details regarding specifications will be gradually released by BMW in due course.
